When you want to make changes to your life and your reality, the first step is to level up your identity. This means a complete identity shift! This is very doable and I’m going to share the tools to get you there in this article.
But first ask yourself: are you ready to choose yourself?
What Is An Identity Shift?
Firstly, let’s be clear about what an identity shift is not. It’s not about becoming something entirely new. What it’s actually about is returning to who you really are and activating your dormant power.
It’s about shifting out of playing small in order to embrace your authenticity by radically accepting every aspect of yourself and having the courage to step up and be fully seen in all your glory. It’s about understanding that you are good enough and allowing yourself to have a seat at the table. It’s about being boldly and unapologetically yourself.
This is the year to reclaim yourself!
Stop Caring What People Think
Often the reason why we have been playing small in the first place is because we have lived too much for the approval of others. Trust me when I say this is a complete and utter waste of time! People actually don’t care as much as you think they do. Most people are focused on themselves and how they are being perceived. Don’t waste your life focusing on pleasing other people. This is a fool’s game.
When you stop caring what other people think you set yourself free. Free to be, do and have whatever is your true calling. Otherwise, you will only ever be a fraction of who you could be. You’ve wasted enough time my friend.
This is the year for you to step boldly into your truth and power.
Give Yourself Permission
Ask yourself what has been holding you back. Why have you not shown up fully before? Where are you not fully committed? Where are you showing up with one foot in and one foot out? Why do you do this?
I bet I can answer that for you. It’s because you are playing it safe just in case things don’t work out the way you hope. So it’s more comfortable to not be all in. Yet this is exactly what is keeping you stuck in your old identity.
In order to fully shift your identity and step into your authentic, powerful self, you need to be all in. Both feet. Sounds risky? Guess what? It’s not as risky as what you’re currently doing. THAT’S risky!
Think about it. If you continue to play small you will never be able to shine your light and serve the way that you know that you can. That’s a waste. Not just for yourself but for the world around you.
Which leads me nicely into the next point.
Don’t Be Selfish
When you’re playing small you are actually being selfish and self-centred. Why? Because the only reason you are playing small is out of fear. Who’s afraid? Your ego. You’re living in ego my friend.
Newsflash! It’s not all about you. Stop getting in your own way and start to focus on how you can use your unique gifts, talents and skills to serve others. That will shift the focus away from your own fears and you can start to shift your identity to someone who is service-led rather than ego-led.
This is huge! This shift alone, if you can consistently master it, will set you up for success and move you closer to your truth and calling.
If True, It Can’t Be Wrong
Trust yourself. You know who you are. You know you are good. You know all that you have to offer. Start showing up as the brightest and best version of yourself and share your power. Remain humble whilst doing so. There is nothing to fear.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
- Matthew 7:18
Choose to have faith and conviction in yourself and every time you sense your old limited self attempting to make a comeback, remind yourself of who you are.

Hege I love that you include relevant Bible verses in your articles to illustrate the concepts you are exploring. I need to do more of this.
And I love your discussion of using your gifts as a way to help others. You mentioned being selfish, but I think many people, especially introverts, fear using their talents because they don’t want to put the spotlight on themselves. Your framing shows that those people can leverage their talents to shine the spotlight on other people and ideas they are passionate about.
Have a wonderful week, Hege.
That's brilliant, Hege. Fear stops us from embracing our true selves. We are hiding the best for last.
It would be good for a game of cards, but it is not for our lives.
