Uncovered
A musical reflection on authenticity, false layers, and quiet truths
*Piano by Matt Randall
This month’s music cover is the song Naked by James Arthur. This song speaks to our ability to be vulnerable and to allow ourselves to be seen for who we truly are.
Stripping Away the False
One thing I believe is happening collectively right now is that we are coming more into truth and authenticity. Slowly. Gently. Powerfully.
This process of stripping away the false, the excess, the masks we wear is a process that is ongoing and one I myself have focused extensively on since around 2021 or so when it became apparent to me that I was carrying some layers that were not fully authentic.
Once these layers are brought into conscious awareness we can start the process of clearing them out and to discover the true essence that lies underneath.
Before anything can be healed or transmuted it must first come into conscious awareness. Anything hidden cannot be dealt with. This is also what we are seeing happening collectively at the moment.
Truths are coming to the surface. Sometimes ugly, unpleasant truths. But wouldn’t you rather face an ugly truth than live with a beautiful lie? I know I would.
The Layers Keeping Us Safe
Where do all these false layers come from in the first place? So many places. Conditioning. Trauma. Survival. In a harsh world we sometimes are in circumstances, situations or dynamics that require us to layer up to feel safe. We have to have compassion for this. No human being does not have some of these inauthentic layers.
I believe we have gotten to a point in human consciousness where it’s time for us to shed anything inauthentic and finally step into truth. That takes courage.
Are you willing to stand out in your naked truth and allow yourself to finally be seen?
The Stories Keeping Us Stuck
If you dig deep enough you will find that the barrier to truth and authenticity is usually some kind of false narrative you carry about yourself. This is most likely rooted in shame.
Here are some common beliefs that stand in the way of most of us being able to let our guard down and show up in our naked truth:
I’m not good enough
There’s something fundamentally wrong or flawed about me
I’m not ‘normal’ enough
I don’t fit in or belong
I won’t be accepted for who I really am
I won’t be understood for who I really am
Now ask yourself - do you believe any of these? Most people believe at least one of them.
So if you believe this about yourself on an unconscious level, it’s time to let it go. But how do you heal such long standing beliefs?
It’s time to gather some evidence that contradict any faulty belief you may have. Ironically this can only be done by allowing yourself to be seen for you really are, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Once you do you will slowly realise that the right people will accept you and love you for exactly who you are. You don’t need to be perfect and you don’t need to hide aspects of yourself any longer. If you are not accepted and loved in your essence, you are not with the right people for you.
Allow yourself to be naked emotionally and psychologically so that your true essence can truly shine and contribute to more authenticity, truth and light.
Bring Discernment With You
As you work through these layers and embrace your true essence more and more it’s also key to be discerning about who you open up to. Our innermost essence is not meant for the world necessarily. It’s a sacred space to be shared with those who have earned the right to it. Not everything is for everyone, but the more you learn to dispel the false, the more lightness of being you will exude naturally.
That’s what this new world we are entering into is calling us to do. Every single one of us.
Are you ready to start stripping away the false and show up as you are? Naked, vulnerable, messy, raw and beautiful?
You’re safe here.
With love,
Hege ✨
